Evergreens went into this challenge with injury woes and lying only one position away from the relegation zone so it was all to play for.

The first half saw end to end action with both teams displaying some good quality hockey. Keeper Su Hoogendyk, Sam Turner, Kerry Holl and Abi White formed a solid defence and the team continued to build up momentum with good passing play from their defensive area. The hard work paid off 20 minutes into the half when Kerry Holl performed a storming run from defense, carrying the ball to the attacking circle and taking a shot at goal. Bethan Gill picked up the rebound and slotted the ball past the keeper to make the score 1-nil going into the half time break.

In the second half Greens took hold of the game and worked tirelessly to maintain pressure on the Broadland defence. However Broadland managed to break into the Greens’ defensive circle and were awarded a penalty flick which unfortunatley Su Hoogendyk was unable to save. Green’s did not let their heads drop however and stepped up the pressure on Broadland. After some attacking action in the circle late on in the second half Greens were finally rewarded when Lizzy Walton’s powerful strike hit the metalwork, and the rebound was picked up by Lizzie Binks who hammered the ball into the net on her debut game of the season.

Greens played safe, sensible hockey right to the final whistle to ensure the well earned win was secured. Next week Greens play Dereham 3 at Greshams, Holt, 10.15am pushback.
